Rutene Rd Kindergarten was the first 'Free' kindergarten built in Gisborne in the mid 1960's and is well established in the wide community it serves. Parents have high expectation of curriculum delivery and the programme has a rich core curriculum content and supports child initiated activities to meet individual needs.

Rutene Rd Kindergarten has 3 fully qualified and registered teachers who are supported by a teacher aide. The kindergarten is licensed for45/45 sessional rolls; this kindergarten has a very active and committed committee.
