National organisation meetings are held two or three times a year and are attended by Association Presidents, Board Members, Managers and Senior Teachers. These are meetings where national issues of the day are discussed, workshops and training sessions are held, and where the National Board reports to members on progress through its strategic plan.
Every year in June the organisation holds its annual general meeting and conference, a feature of which are keynote motivational guest speakers.
Associations are able to bid to hold the national conference in their areas, and we endeavour to have every second conference in Wellington.
The national Board consists of an elected President, elected Vice President, and three other elected parent representatives, an early childhood education professional and a member association manager (these are also elected positions). All board terms are for two years, although members are eligible to stand for re-election; elections usually occur at the annual general meeting, although there have been occasions when postal ballots are necessary.
Since 1997 NZKI has received funding from the Ministry of Education to hold an annual Senior Teacher meeting. The funding for this has to be applied for each year.
In 2002, for the first time ever, the Ministry of Education funded a three day General Managers/Administrators' hui, and will continue to do so on a 2-yearly basis, as long as hui criteria are met. It is hoped to run these hui every two years.
