PARENT INFORMATION
Welcome to Kindergarten!

Your child's early years are vitally important in setting the education path they will take for the rest of their lives. It is important that the foundations for learning are established early and that children learn that education is fun!

Many parents wonder just what sort of educational experiences their children are getting by 'just playing'. A child never 'just plays'. A child learns through experience and with the right teaching and guidance, will have excellent learning patterns established for life.

The Child as an Active Learner

Kindergarten provides an environment that creates trust and fosters confidence the children will be able to become active participants in their own learning, they will be able to give things a go.

Programme planning is based on child initiated contributions which reflect the children' interests at the time. Co-construction of knowledge is encouraged.

An emphasis on promoting dramatic play allows for an atmosphere of social equity, equal roles/equal rights for all.

Children are encouraged to express their feeling and needs through language and to articulate their ideas to others. This creates many opportunities for peer tutoring.

The Kindergarten Teacher's Role

The kindergarten teacher's role is to value children's play. To always have a holistic view of the child and to view themselves as an intellectual resource available to extend and facilitate children's ideas

The teacher aims to achieve frequent incidents of "joint attention" with individual children. The role of the teacher and learner are often interchanged and the teacher experiences the joy of learning alongside the child.

All children are encouraged to experience and "sample" other languages and culture with a view to acceptance and tolerance and appreciation.
