The South Taranaki Free Kindergarten Association (STFKA) is the umbrella organization for seven kindergartens in the South Taranaki area sited in Patea, Hawera, Eltham and Stratford.
The Association is governed by a Board of Governors, made up of elected parent representatives, a teacher representative, and the Senior Teacher and Executive Officer as ex-officio members. These last two are responsible for the day-to-day management of the Association, with the Senior Teacher providing professional leadership for teachers and advice to the Board, and with the Executive Officer providing general administration and management plus support for kindergarten committees.
Each of the seven kindergartens also has its own Parent Committee which is responsible for the day-to-day care and managing of the kindergartens, with the main emphasis of their role being one of fundraising to ensure running costs are met. The Association employs 18 teachers with a combined experience in kindergarten teaching of approximately 330 years, and many of these practitioners have been in their teaching roles for 20 years or more.
