The potential for tomorrow depends on what we do today.

Vision Taranaki

The boards of South Taranaki and North Taranaki Kindergarten Associations are working together on a vision for kindergarten in Taranaki for the future.

In December 2011, a working group was established with members from each association to lead the thinking and to explore what is possible.

The principles guiding this work include our:

  • shared philosophy, values and aspirations

  • aim to have a strong kindergarten presence in Taranaki in the decades to come and to ‘future proof’ kindergarten

  • aim to be leaders in high quality early childhood education provision in this region

  • commitment to be responsive to Taranaki children and their families and whanau

  • aim to ensure efficient and effective use of government and community funding and resources.

In July 2012, after receiving recommendations from the working group, the governing boards of the North and South Taranaki Kindergarten Associations voted andagreed in principle that a new organisation be created to provide kindergarten services across the Taranaki region.

Alongside its work around organisational structure, the Vision Taranaki working group is continuing to explore how kindergarten services can best meet the diverse needs of Taranaki children and their families in the future.

We are committed to providing high quality services and to being responsive and inclusive. Both strands of work - organisational structure and service provision - will involve further conversations with staff, parents, community organisations and local iwi.

Members of the Vision Taranaki working group:

North Taranaki: Tania Bruhn - NTKA chairperson, Paula Wellington-Tough - board member, Kelly Ellis - association manager, Hilda Colgan – senior teacher.

South Taranaki: Mike Brotherson – STFKA president, Shaun Keenan – board member and parent representative, Dawn Osman – acting association manager, Andrew Wood – operations manager.

Independent Chair (February – May 2012): Doug Hislopformer school principal and active Taranaki region community member.
