The Westport Free Kindergarten is the sole kindergarten serving the Buller
region. Our kindergarten reflects the community friendliness and involves
children and families from a wide cross section of the community.
We believe:
-
That early childhood education is the foundation upon which children build the
rest of their lives and is an education that encompasses all learning.
-
As Early Childhood Educators we aim to nurture a love of learning and extend
knowledge, skils and experiences that each child brings with them to
kinergarten.
-
That parents/caregivers/whanau are valued and essential partners in this
process and encourage their active participation in their child's education.
-
It is every child's right, irrespective of race, gender, religion or ability to
have equal access to quality Early Childhood Education.
-
That each child should be viewed as an individual with specific needs that we
endeavour to meet appropriately, enabling them to reach their full potential.
-
New Zealand has a unique cultural heritage. We understand the importance of
being an active partner with Tangata Whenua to uphold the principles of Tiriti
o Waitangi. We aim to reflect the values and beliefs of Tangata Whenua within
our practice.
-
Play is central to a child's learning. It is our aim that all children have the
opportunity to participate in a wide range of relevant child-centred, hands on
experiences leading to the acquisition of knowledge, skills, concepts and ideas
necessary for them to become independent self-motivated learners.
